What is short-term care for seniors, and how does it differ from long-term care?
Short-term care is meant for older adults who need support for a limited time. It’s often necessary after a major health incident, an accident, or while recovering from surgery. It can also be a way of providing temporary relief for a caregiver if they need to take time off to rest.

Respite Care and Short-Term Home Care FAQ

We recommend you ask your doctor about what they think will be the best course of action for your respite period. Based on their feedback, look online at your local options. Give your preferred choices a call and arrange a time to meet in person.

To save you time, take a look at our respite offerings and speak to one of our experienced, friendly team members.

Respite care is a short-term care arrangement. It benefits caregivers by providing coverage when they need to take a break and recharge; this is an effective way of preventing caregiver burnout or caregiver fatigue.

This depends on what area you’re in but, in general, yes! ComForCare has locations all over Canada and respite care is available at them all. As we hire a wide variety of caregivers, we can accommodate unique care needs you or your loved one may have.

Most recovery periods require specific measures to ensure proper healing, which often involves minimal movement, light, if any, lifting, and copious amounts of rest. Depending on your area, availability will fluctuate. In general, however, you should be able to find short-term senior care near you. ComForCare has locations across Canada, and we do our best to provide support to anyone who inquires.

Better Care Starts Here

Read how we are helping older adults live their best lives possible. Here is what clients say about their experience with our agency.
"April 8, 2025 by S.S.E.P."
"The staff has grown in experience over the last few years. They are very supportive and treat our family like theirs. It all comes down to the caregiver though. Caregiver availability is what can make or break the experience. Sometimes the agency is forced to place a caregiver that may not be ideal, but is the only one available. It becomes more difficult as the complexity of the case increases, as is our situation. The staff at ComForCare has worked very hard to provide quality care to my father for 7 years! For now we are in a very good place, thanks to ComForCare."
"March 5, 2025 by R.B."
"Our caregiver takes a personal interest in her clients needs & comforts. She takes wonderful care of his appearance. She spends time keeping him occupied with magazines and other current events all while attending to basic daily tasks."
"March 4, 2025 by E.N."
"The care givers that have helped my family over the past few year have become ""part of our family"". They care kind, warm, and very knowledgeable. I do not have to worry about anything when they are there taking care of my parents. The agency has always helped my family out with various days and nights if extra help is needed."
