Meaningful Activities Promote Positive Emotional Experiences

To illustrate how we achieve our mission—helping clients live their best lives possible—we juxtapose Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory with our ComForCare hierarchy of services. The parallels are quite obvious. From the start, ComForCare provides basic care supporting clients’ needs for food, basic hygiene and safety supervision. Then we take it up another level with properly matched and trained caregivers who quickly form close relationships with clients. As a result, we experience positive emotional experiences and enhance them through our unique ActivityWise program.

Customized Activities — Appealing to
Your Loved One’s Personal Interests

We start by completing a Social History Assessment. This includes social history, personality, preferences, skills, hobbies, favorite pastimes and activities. With the use of a specially designed questionnaire linked to our automated software, we generate a customized report of activities and information to create entertaining projects and uplifting tasks for each client. Families and friends can also utilize this dynamic tool through our Family Portal. The Social History Assessment is an important element of care that we use to create meaningful relationships with our clients. The great relationships between our clients and caregivers are extremely positive and further assure that you can rely on us for the care of your loved one.

Daily Activities — Structuring Daily Routines

The curated questionnaire with accompanying software generates personal insights which are used to create a daily agenda reflective of each clients’ hobbies, skills and preferences. Additional resources are provided through the customized links included in the personalized report. This individualized approach benefits the client as well as the caregiver and helps facilitate their relationship as well as create a structured daily routine. Our goal is to enact at least one meaningful activity per client, per shift.

Beyond the benefit of improving relationships, meaningful activities provide much needed:

  • Cognitive stimulation
  • Gentle exercise
  • Skill retention
  • Reminiscence
  • Life meaning and purpose

Here are a few additional meaningful activity resources we incorporate into our daily care routines that are available to anyone:

  • "Patricia has been great with my 93 year old mother!"
She's creative and just seems to know what my mother needs and wants. She's a great aid to me knowing doctors visits, prescription pick-up and grocery runs are all taken care of - big load off my mind and schedule.
  • "The owners and nurse are fantastic!"
Always willing to take calls from my Mom and explain things in a way she and I can understand. Also walked us through the insurance process. That was not easy and their expertise was greatly appreciated.
  • "ComForCare has given me peace of mind!"
The fact that ComForCare was able to step in with certified dementia care specialists and begin caring for my father has been fantastic. The staff and caregivers are both sympathetic and empathetic and I feel it has helped my father during this difficult time. It has also given me peace of mind since I live a long distance from my father, and the communication from staff and caregivers is reassuring.
