Many seniors suffer from a lack of mobility due to medical procedures, aging joints, sickness, or other factors. When an older person loses the ability to move around effectively, it can lead to depression and also put them in a dangerous situation, especially if they live alone.
If you have a loved one who is dealing with mobility issues, enlisting the help of a trained in-home caregiver can provide relief. Our team is based right here in the East Bay, and we have a passion for providing compassionate care to people dealing with unique issues.
In this article, we will discuss a few areas we focus on when providing mobility assistance. If you have a loved one who is struggling to get around, check out this article to learn how in-home care can help.
When a senior has trouble walking, it can lead to a dangerous situation in their home. Trip and fall accidents can be terrible for older people, and as their caregivers, we want to minimize the risk of them getting hurt. When we work with people with mobility issues, we take time to assess their home environment and make changes to give them a direct, easy path throughout their space. This might mean rearranging furniture, removing trip hazards, adding grab bars, or making other accommodations to reduce fall risks.
While making sure a person is safe during their day to day movements is one goal we have, we also want to encourage healing and progress toward easy movement again. We realize this isn’t possible with every patient, but for many people, physical therapy can help them move freely again after an injury or procedure. Our caregivers can help implement and oversee physical therapy which has been prescribed by a therapist, and we can offer encouragement to our patients to help them through it. Physical therapy can be tough, especially alone, but our caregivers are in place to help.
In addition to physical therapy, some patients regain mobility through the use of a cane, walker, or other tool. Our caregivers can help people get comfortable with their walking devices, and help them practice in the comfort of their homes. As we discussed before, part of what we do is making a clear path, so we can ensure walkers, canes, and other tools can be safely used throughout the home.
When people have difficulties moving from place to place, regular chores which were once normal tasks might seem impossible. We want to ease the burden of these tasks while our patients heal, so our caregivers can help with cooking meals, cleaning, doing laundry, getting to appointments, and other tasks as needed. We understand everyone has unique needs, so our services are tailored to their lifestyle.
Above all, we strive to provide a high level of compassionate care for everyone we work with. If you want to learn more about what we do, ask questions, or book a consultation, please reach out to us today.
