ComForCare Brooklyn North is proud to be an AFA-approved memory screening site, offering complimentary and confidential memory screenings as part of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s National Memory Screening Program. This is another way we can support individuals and families with comprehensive care which is both proactive and personalized.
A memory screening is a brief, low-pressure check-in on memory and thinking skills. It usually takes about 10 minutes and is made up of a few simple questions or activities. While a screening doesn’t provide a diagnosis or replace a visit with a doctor, it can offer helpful insight and point someone toward next steps if further evaluation might be useful.
Changes in memory can feel unsettling, especially when it’s hard to know what’s “normal” and what might need attention. Memory concerns can stem from many causes—some temporary or treatable, others more complex. Not all memory issues are dementia-related! Regardless of the cause, having an early conversation can give families more time to make informed decisions together.
For our team, memory screenings are about more than just information. Understanding how someone’s cognition may be changing allows us to tailor care in a way that aligns with evolving needs, adapting naturally over time rather than reactively, helping preserve familiar rhythms and routines without sudden or disruptive changes. This thoughtful approach allows care to grow alongside the person, not overtake their life.
The screening can be conducted virtually via video conference, or wherever you feel most comfortable. Reach out today for yours!
