San Diego Regional Center Support for Local Families

Compassionate one-on-one care and support

That is what we do. ComForCare Home Care San Diego & La Jolla is an authorized San Diego Regional Center vendor. We work directly with SDRC service coordinators to deliver respite care and personal assistance services for individuals living with developmental disabilities across Central San Diego and La Jolla.

What Is the San Diego Regional Center?

The San Diego Regional Center is a state-funded agency that coordinates services and support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and related conditions. It serves both children and adults throughout San Diego County.

SDRC works under the Lanterman Act, California’s foundational legislation guaranteeing that individuals with developmental disabilities have the right to services that support independent living and community participation. Families work with an assigned service coordinator who helps develop an Individual Program Plan and authorizes services based on their loved one’s specific goals and needs.

Need help with the intake process?

If you are not yet connected with the San Diego Regional Center and think your family may qualify, call us first at (858) 270-1700. We know the intake process well and can help you understand whether your family qualifies and how to get started. You can also reach SDRC directly at sdrc.org.

What Services Does ComForCare Provide Through SDRC?

We are vendored to provide two core services through the San Diego Regional Center. Learn more on our Disability Management service page.

01
Respite Care

The Regional Center calls it respite care. What it actually means is giving you a break. If you are a parent or family caregiver for someone with a developmental disability, you know how relentless the daily demands can be. Our caregivers come to your home so you can step away, handle what you need to handle, or simply rest.

Caregiver engaging happily with a child at home

We provide a safe, familiar, and enriching environment for your loved one while you are away. Our caregivers are thoroughly screened, trained, and matched to your family’s specific needs.

This is not a babysitting registry. These are professionals who understand behavioral support, daily routines, and what it means to be trusted in someone’s home.

02
Personal Assistance Services

Our personal assistance services provide dedicated one-on-one support designed around your loved one’s individual program plan goals. This is flexible, community-based support that goes wherever your family needs it most.

Support worker and young adult enjoying community activities outdoors

That might mean working on independent living skills at home in Hillcrest. It might mean supporting someone through their morning routine in a Clairemont apartment. It might mean accompanying an individual to a program in Mission Valley or running errands near the UTC area.

We build the schedule around the goals in the IPP and the rhythms of your family’s life. Personal assistance includes help with daily tasks like bathing, grooming, dressing, meal prep, and getting around the community safely.
