As part of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s (AFA) National Memory Screening Program, ComForCare Home Care Greater Orlando offers memory screenings every week, by appointment only.

A memory screening is a simple non-invasive test, administered by a qualified healthcare professional. Screenings last about 10 minutes and consist of a series of questions and tasks designed to gauge memory, thinking and language skills.

Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, and that number is expected to triple by 2050. Advanced age is the most significant risk factor, with the incidence of the disease doubling every five years between 65 and 95.

The National Memory Screening Program serves as a starting point for discussions about memory concerns and lifestyle changes – diet, managing stress, physical and mental exercise – that may help people age successfully.

Memory problems could be caused by Alzheimer’s disease or other medical conditional, including vitamin deficiencies, thyroid problems, or depression.

A memory screening does not diagnose any illness but can signal whether someone should follow up with a physician for a thorough evaluation.
