Every October, Down Syndrome Awareness Month invites us to celebrate the abilities, goals, and contributions of people with Down syndrome – and to rethink what support looks like. For many adults with Down syndrome, the goal isn’t being cared for so much as being supported to live life on their own terms. That’s where thoughtful in-home care makes a real difference.
Adults with Down syndrome have their own routines, relationships, jobs, hobbies, and ambitions. The right support meets each person where they are – helping with what’s genuinely needed while stepping back everywhere else. At ComForCare Central San Jose, our developmentally disabled care is built around exactly that balance.
Our caregivers help adults with developmental disabilities develop and strengthen the everyday skills that support a fuller, more independent life – at home and out in the community. That can include:
We believe the person receiving care should help drive it. Through self-determination, our support is shaped around each individual’s own choices and goals – not a one-size-fits-all program. Families can access this care through San Andreas Regional Center and private pay.
Down Syndrome Awareness Month is a great reminder, but this work happens every day. If you’re exploring in-home support for an adult family member with Down syndrome or another developmental disability, we’d love to talk. Call ComForCare Central San Jose at (669) 333-3141.
