The true impact of Parkinson’s disease (PD) is difficult to measure. It clearly takes a physical toll, but then there are the countless ways it disrupts the daily routines you’ve come to depend on, the relationships that mean the most to you, and your very sense of control over your world. Those are the pieces that can feel the most frightening.
At ComForCare New Braunfels, we believe no one should navigate Parkinson’s alone. That’s why we work hand-in-hand with local organizations like the Lone Star Parkinson Society to connect families with resources that make a real difference—from support groups to long-term Parkinson’s care in the comfort of home.
The Lone Star Parkinson Society has become a cornerstone for Parkinson’s disease support in Central Texas. This nonprofit hosts multiple in-person programs to help participants maintain mobility, improve speech, and stay socially connected, no matter what type of Parkinson’s they’re living with.
These programs create an uplifting environment where people can go beyond movement and speech therapy alone to reclaim a sense of purpose and community. Here are just a few of their standout offerings.
A key part of the Parkinson Voice Project, the LOUD Crowd® program offers weekly speech therapy to help individuals strengthen vocal muscles and maintain clear speech. Since Parkinson’s can reduce vocal volume and expression, this ongoing group therapy plays a critical role in preserving independence and confidence.
These movement-based fitness programs are tailored specifically for people with Parkinson’s. Regular physical activity also supports cardiovascular health and can help stabilize blood pressure, another common concern for patients with Parkinson’s.
Rock Steady Boxing is a non-contact boxing workout that improves coordination, mobility, and balance, especially for those who experience stiffness or slow movement on one side of the body. Local classes take place at Haus on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, as well as the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturday of every month, from 10:15 to 11:45am.
Parkinson’s STRONG offers strength and wellness routines focused on self-care and symptom management as PD progresses. Classes take place at the Comal County Senior Center in partnership with Gem STRONG Wellness.
The Society also hosts Parkinson’s support group meetings twice a month in New Braunfels. These gatherings are open to individuals with PD as well as their caregivers, spouses, and adult children. Whether you’re navigating early symptoms or managing advanced Parkinson’s disease progression, these meetings offer real-world advice and emotional support.
Caring for a loved one with Parkinson’s is both physically demanding and emotionally complex. Understanding the stages of Parkinson’s and how symptoms change over time can leave even the most devoted caregivers feeling overwhelmed.
That’s why local Parkinson’s disease caregiver support groups are so essential. These groups allow family members to share concerns, get advice, and learn new approaches for day-to-day care.
That’s why we encourage families to access every tool available, including:
Caring for someone else starts with caring for yourself. Parkinson’s disease self-care applies to family caregivers too—it’s not selfish to ask for help.
Once families explore programs and group resources, they often ask: What happens as the disease progresses?
As Parkinson’s disease advances, symptoms can worsen over time, and that’s when having trained, dependable in-home care becomes essential. At ComForCare New Braunfels, we specialize in Parkinson’s care tailored to the unique needs and preferences of each client and family.
What sets us apart? Every one of our caregivers receives dedicated Parkinson’s training within their first 90 days. This is on top of their required continuing education and hands-on onboarding.
Our Parkinson’s training for caregivers covers:
Because each case is different, we personalize our care plans to support clients whether they’re just starting their PD journey or require long-term care around the clock.
