For a big dose of the heart and soul at the core of caregiving, look no further than Heather. A Jamaican immigrant, Heather came to New York unsure of what her future would hold. She studied for her home health aide certification and began to look for a position that was the right fit. When she decided to call our Brooklyn office, she knew she\u2019d finally found an agency as ready to go as she was. Over the course of her time with us, Heather has proven herself to be incredibly adaptable, hardworking, and altogether a pillar in the lives of each client. She finds ways to be there for them uniquely, making them feel seen and cared for. When one of our clients became increasingly agitated during sundowning, Heather remembered that he grew up loving Frank Sinatra. She put a record on for him. Immediately, he became serene. Every following evening, she played Sinatra for him and held a little dance party in the kitchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One thing Heather knows for sure: caregiving is all about compassion. Without it, excelling in this field is impossible. \u201cPut yourself in the patient\u2019s shoes,\u201d Heather urges. \u201cIf that was you, how would you want to be treated?\u201d That sentiment might sound simple, but it means the world, in the home care industry. How would you want to be treated? If your day was in any way dependent on the help of others, how would you hope to be spoken to? True empathy opens the door between \u201cjust a job\u201d and providing genuine care. True empathy leads to making a real, tangible difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Everything our caregivers do, everything we do, centers around one sincere goal: maintaining the dignity of those we serve, and ultimately enhancing the quality of their lives.
