Every week since they were matched in January of 2023, Herbert and his caregiver Liza enjoy breakfast at their favorite diner, a cute, sunny joint nestled by their local park. Today, we were lucky enough to join them. Over eggs and toast (Herbert) and matzo ball soup (Liza), the duo regales us with entertaining anecdotes and doses of wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whether it\u2019s going out to tried-and-true restaurants or experimenting with new ones, Liza and Herbert have quite the social calendar. We think they might even get out more than we do! At home, they watch classic movies and enjoy Liza\u2019s homemade meals. \u201cThere was chemistry right from the start!\u201d Herbert tells us. Just by spending breakfast with them, that chemistry is readily apparent. However, their bond goes beyond the simple kinship shared by a caregiver and a client; it\u2019s two people who care for each other like family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When asking Herbert about a favorite memory with Liza, he\u2019s hard-pressed to think of just one. After mulling it over, the memory he chooses isn\u2019t just an exciting outing or delicious meal. It was a subtle moment when Liza made a clever, empathetic observation about one of his friendships. \u201cThat really showed a lot of depth, that she noticed that,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, is there any trouble in paradise? \u201cWe argue about the windows,\u201d Liza laughs. \u201cShe\u2019s always too hot, and I\u2019m always too cold!\u201d adds Herbert. But they\u2019re not fooling us: they get along splendidly, and it\u2019s difficult to imagine any pair better embodying the meaningful connections we strive to create.
